Friends Academy Celebrates Unity Day with First Community Group Meetings

On Thursday, October 10, the Friends Academy community wore orange to honor Unity Day, part of Bullying Prevention Month. The day was also marked with the first meetings of all-school Community Groups, which bring together students and adults in all divisions to strengthen bonds across campus.

The academic program emphasizes the development of good organizational and study skills, a respect for diverse learning styles, experience in cooperative learning, and the acquisition of interdisciplinary skills.

The core curriculum includes the study of English, mathematics, science, and social studies. In the sixth grade, students begin the study of French, Spanish or Mandarin Chinese. Exploratory courses in computer, research skills, health, Quakerism, theater, ethics, band, strings, chorus, and art complement the program. Sixth, seventh and eighth graders also separately participate in an outdoor education trip in the fall and winter. These activities provide students with the opportunity to build leadership skills and to strengthen self-esteem.
