Spotlight on Early Childhood

Students in Early Childhood created Testimony Rocks for the LS Community Service Day. Each rock represented a Quaker testimony. The students had a great time creating and shopping to help raise money for such a special organization – Birthday Wishes Long Island!!

The Play Group students enjoyed a quick FA photo opportunity while exploring the campus on one of their many nature walks. The walk continued with a stroll around the quad which included using their handmade binoculars to look for birds.

Second Grade joined Early Childhood students to celebrate the books the second grade students have been busy writing. This collaborative activity was enjoyed by all.

Early Childhood students use open ended, repurposed materials for building and exploring size, shape, space and color. Each child is given a neutral colored work surface to work upon. Photographs are taken of each structure so the children can revisit their builds through the photos and share dialogue about their creation with their teachers and peers.

The Early Childhood Learning Celebration was an opportunity for the families to come in and see the ongoing learning taking place in the Early Childhood program. Projects and creative work was on display from paintings and peace rocks to block builds. The children each took their families around for a “tour” of the displays. Interactive table stations offered parents and students the opportunity to work together. Thank you to all who attended!

PreK students observed indoor succulent plants, as our introduction to our science unit on plants and seeds. The children had the opportunity to study the plants, discuss their findings, and draw pictures of what they observed.

The rocks will be on display at the Withington House in a very special place in our peace garden.
