Friends Academy strongly encourages participation of faculty, administrators and Upper School students in a wide range of off-site professional development and leadership opportunities, including attendance at some of the workshops and conferences listed below.
NAIS PEOPLE OF COLOR CONFERENCE
“PoCC” is designed for people of color from independent schools across the nation as a venue for networking and support, and to address the need for schools to find ways to build and sustain inclusive communities.
NYSAIS JOB FAIR TO PROMOTE DIVERSITY
This event is designed to increase the numbers of teachers and administrators of color within independent schools.
NYSAIS DIVERSITY CONFERENCE
While it is understood that the support of parents is vital to diversity work, this conference is designed specifically for teachers, administrators and staff, and it is not appropriate for parents or students.
THE WHITE PRIVILEGE CONFERENCE
WPC is a conference that examines challenging concepts of privilege and oppression and offers solutions and team building strategies to work toward a more equitable world. Open to everyone, WPC welcomes folks with varying levels of experience addressing issues of diversity, cultural competency, and multiculturalism.
A series of workshops that teach high-school students about the history of race and racism in the U.S. and how it continues to have an impact on Long Island. Students also learn about ways to work in their own community to bring about more racial equity.
