Friends Academy Summer Driver Education Program

ABOUT THE COURSE: The program is a complete, professionally taught Driver Education Course that will provide students with a comprehensive introduction to the driving experience. Students must complete 16 sessions “in-car” and 16 sessions of classroom instruction with a passing grade of 65 in each category. At the end of all 32 sessions students will have received 24 hrs of classroom instruction and 24 hrs of in-car driving instruction relating to "Rules of the Road", traffic safety concerns, defensive driving, proper handling of vehicle, parking, driving in traffic, and problems of substance abuse in relation to driving.

DATES: July 9,10,11,16,17,18,23,24,25,30,31, Aug. 1,6,7,8,13 (Aug. 14-possible make up day)

WHAT THE COURSE OFFERS: Upon completion of this course, students receive the MV285 “Certificate of Completion.” This certificate entitles a 17 year old the Class D senior license when they pass the NY State DMV Road Test. Students will also receive an insurance premium reduction.

ELIGIBILITY: Students will be 16 or 17 years old and must have a N.Y. State Learner's Permit before the first class.

COST $775: Please submit check payment of $775 to Friends Academy Summer Camp

REFUND POLICYIf a student cannot be accommodated because classes are filled, all moneys will be returned or refunded. If a student withdraws from the program after classes begin, no tuition refund will be authorized.

ABSENCES/MAKE-UPS Make up classes are decided in 2 parts: by the lecture teacher and the car instructor. All missed classes must be made up in the same semester you enrolled. There will be a $25 make-up fee for any driving absence, with a maximum of 3 absence allowed. Failure to make up classes, or if more than 3 have been missed, may result in the student being dropped from the course. No refund will be issued. All lecture classes and driving time must be fully completed for students to receive the MV285 “Student Certificate of Completion” from Friends Academy.

Driver Education Applications must be received by Friday June 21st, 2019.

Please check off your 1st, 2nd and 3rd choice for the driving class. We will try to accommodate time preference wherever possible. A three hour time commitment is mandatory each day (Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday with 90 min. in-car driving and 90 min lecture class. Missed class time must be made up. Note: Students will receive an email/phone call with their specific driving time.

All instruction takes place at Friends Academy. Additional training is necessary for the road test (Google the MV262 Form).

Student Obligation Agreement

1. I will obtain the New York State Learner’s Permit.

2. I will always obey all New York State Vehicle & Traffic Laws.

3. I understand that I must successfully complete the theory and road portions of this course in order to receive the MV285 “Student Certificate of Completion.”

4. I understand that to successfully complete the theory and driving components of the course, my attendance is essential to fulfill N.Y. State Education Department requirements.

5. I have read and understand the Absence/Make-up section of this application. I agree to the policy stated.

6. I understand that to practice my driving skills without my instructor, I MUST have a Learner's Permit (MV-100), and I can only practice with my PARENT/GUARDIAN between the hours of 5:00 AM and 9:00 PM.

7. I understand the Class “D” license is obtained at age 17 with the successful completion of the 48 hour Driver Education Course, turning in the MV285 Certificate to DMV, and passing the NY State road test.

8. I have read, understand and accept the responsibilities and obligations outlined in this application.
