Junior Prom – Saturday, April 13th

Dear Parents,

The Junior Prom Evening is scheduled for Saturday, April 13th in the Dolan Center.  The Pre-Prom Gathering is from 7:00-7:30 pm in the quad or library and the Prom begins at 7:30 PM and ends at 10:30 PM in the Commons. The cost is $30 per person.

Please follow this link to purchase tickets.

Dress: The dress is "dressy" but not "formal." There will be beverages, hors d'oeuvres, light dinner, and desserts. There are approximately 16 chaperones scheduled to attend. Please encourage your son or daughter to think of this event as a full class party.

Guests: Kids should not feel that they must have a "date" to attend. If a student would like to invite a non-FA student as a guest, he/she must fill out the visitor permission slip, which is also on the Parent Portal and has been handed out to students.

Moderation encouraged: The school encourages parents to support the traditions of our Junior Prom. Over the years we have worked together with parents and students to ensure the event is a safe social gathering. We believe that this event should be in accordance with our Quaker values of moderation and that the Junior Prom be distinctively different from our Senior Prom. Therefore, we ask that parents refrain from hiring limousines, buying or renting expensive formal wear or hosting pre or post prom parties.

Parent opportunities: We invite you to come and celebrate with us during this gathering! It will be a great chance to greet and mingle with our young people at the beginning of a very festive evening. We strongly discourage any family from hosting a "Pre-Pre Prom" as our campus pre-prom offers ample opportunity for mingling and taking pictures. There are opportunities available for parent volunteers to help prepare for the Prom. Please contact the parent liaisons for more information.

Guidelines: While some families may decide to host a Post Prom gathering, we want to advise that there are always concerns about post-prom plans. Please keep in mind the school's policy about "off campus functions" as stated in the Handbook.

  • "Students and their families should recognize that along with the privilege and opportunity to attend Friends Academy goes the responsibility of representing the school positively in the community at large... Specifically with regard to off-campus, private, social functions involving Friends Academy students, parents should always be present. Parents should feel neither guilty nor embarrassed about setting their own rules and insisting they be respected. Students should understand they are guests and behave accordingly. Alcohol or drugs should never be served to students. Parents who choose to ignore this understanding place themselves at extraordinary legal risk and jeopardize their child's safety and continued enrollment at Friends Academy."

Please review the 'General Rules of Junior Prom' that will be reviewed with your kids.  They are as follows:

  1. This event is sponsored as an Alcohol, Drug, and Tobacco Free Event. "Possession and/or use of illegal drugs, alcohol, and tobacco in any form is forbidden on campus or at any school event". "No student may use, possess, or be under the influence of alcohol or illegal drugs at school or at a school function." Students found to be violating this Fundamental Standard will in all likelihood be dismissed for a first offense. Please review the school policy regarding use or possession of alcohol or drugs in the Parent/Student Directory Handbook.

  2.  Only small purses will be permitted into the party. Larger bags will need to be stored in a locked office for the evening.

  3.  Behavior:
    1. Friends Academy Students - All school rules for behavior apply at this event.

    2. Outside guests are expected to behave in a respectful manner following rules of proper behavior. (Please see Guest Permission Slip.)

  4. Friends Academy reserves the rights to remove students or their guest from the event by having the host (Friends Academy parent) pick up the person who is in violation of rules or is acting inappropriately.

  5. Students and guests- the Junior Prom Evening is taking place between the hours of 7:00 pm and 10:30 pm. Students and their guests are expected to arrive not later than 7:30 pm and to remain at the Prom in the commons until 10:30 pm. There may be no early departures.

  6. Important: for this special evening we ask that parents drive their child and their guest to and from prom. We are not permitting student drivers of any age to drive or park on campus. Additionally, to foster moderation and avoid competition, limousines will not be permitted.

Thank you for your support of this special evening for our juniors.

Warm Regards,

Ron Baskind, Jennifer Dice and Mark Schoeffel
