Summer Math and Reading Reminders

Dear Parents of Rising 7th grade students,

I hope this communication finds you already enjoying the days of summer!

I wanted to be sure to provide you with some last reminders:

Math Placement and Summer Review

Math placement letters were mailed to you on Friday, June 15th.  If you do not receive a letter, please e-mail and I will re-send.  Please let me know if you have any questions re.your child's placement.

We recommend all students do some math over the summer to allow them to be more prepared for the 7th grade program.  Students should download this  math packet.

Students that attended Friends Academy Middle School for the 2017-2018 school year
1) Students should go to KhanAcademy.org and open their account.  (Sign in using your gmail account)
2.) Once logged in, in the top right corner students should click on their name and then select 'profile'

3.) There, they will find assignments given by their grade level teacher.

4.) Unless indicated by the grade level teacher, students can choose which topics of study they want to review.

Students new to Friends Academy Middle School for the 2018-2019 school year

To log into the Khan Academy:
1)      Students should go to KhanAcademy.org and create an account using your full name, no
         nicknames.

2)      Visit khanacademy.org/coaches (by clicking on the Coaches tab in your profile)

3)      Once there, in the "Add a coach" field, enter the appropriate codes below:

Rising to 7th Graders ( Review of Math 6): 2S4Q7M

4)      Once you have joined, email your grade level teacher and they will be able to assign the work.

We hope that this helps to provide our students with a fun avenue to review these concepts.

Summer Reading

Each child has been assigned to read three books for school, in addition to any recreational reading he/she may be enjoying. Please refer to the Summer Reading located on the Parent Portal (Middle School tab). Click on this link to learn more about the expectations for each novel. You are not expected to turn any written assignments the day you return to school. However, you will be required to demonstrate your understanding of each story in a variety of ways, both oral and written, once classes begin. Use the checklist to help you organize what you should do during/after reading.

You can also find the math and summer reading information I just shared with you in this e-mail on the Parent Portal.

If you have any questions that need immediate attention, please e-mail me  (deborah_schoman@fa.org).

I want to wish you a wonderful summer and I look forward to the 2018-2019 school year!

Best,

Deb Schoman
