Dear Friends Academy Community,
I hope everyone had a great spring break. On behalf of our Head of School Search Committee, I'm excited to share an update on the progress in our search over the past month.
Our consultants, Bruce Dennis and Marsha Little, were on campus for two days in early April. They participated in 25 in-person listening sessions and three virtual sessions, meeting with over 100 individuals spanning faculty, staff, administration, parents, students, alumni, and trustees. In addition, almost 120 members of the community completed an online survey. We appreciate the time and care so many of you devoted to those conversations and the passion with which you shared your affection for Friends Academy and your hopes for the school's next chapter.
From the survey and site visits there was significant alignment on the strengths of Friends Academy, with two themes particularly prominent:
- Our academic program excellence and focus on skills such as critical thinking, collaboration, communication, and creativity; and
- Our community, anchored by the school's Quaker identity, close student-teacher relationships, and small class sizes.
This feedback – along with the trends we noted in our earlier communications on academic reputation, financial health, giving, applications for enrollment, and athletic and arts successes – only reinforces our belief that our Head of School position will be a highly desirable opportunity for great candidates.
Of course, there is work to do. Across the interviews and survey results, there were a number of themes that you asked us to focus on in our search. In particular, further investment in our academic program and facilities; deeper engagement across our community; and reinforced commitment to our shared standards and principles.
