One of five on LI, senior Tyler Hu will travel to D.C. for the Student Leaders Summit.
Senior Tyler Hu has been selected as one of five Bank of America 2018 Student leaders across Long Island.
An advocate for and committed to service in the community, Tyler volunteers on the Upper School W.A.T.C.H. (We Are The Community Helpers), is treasurer of The Giving Tree Family, volunteers at La Fuerza Unida and the North Shore Sheltering Program. Tyler is also trilingual in Spanish, Mandarin and English. Tyler has interned at the Grenville Baker Boys & Girls Club, assisting the Executive Director and working across various departments (Development, Special Events, Finance, Programs and Human Resources).
Each year, approximately 225 juniors and seniors are selected to participate in an eight-week paid internship at a local nonprofit organization to learn first-hand about the needs of your community and the critical role nonprofits play. Each Student Leader also attends the Student Leaders Summit held in Washington, D.C. to learn how government, business and the nonprofit sector work together to address critical community needs.
Tyler is looking forward to diversifying his work experience with this program and has already connected with new friends and partners. "My top priority as a student leader is to help others succeed and to help teach others the values of hard work and selflessness."
The Student Leaders program, established in 2004, aims to prepare "a diverse pipeline of community-minded young students with the leadership training they need to be successful in the workforce...and to help build thriving communities."
