Con Geothermal energy by Eric Wertheim ‘06

1. Not all areas of the world have a usable geothermal resource, though many do. Also, some geothermal areas do not have a high enough temperature to produce
2. It is very costly to build and operate a geothermal power plant
3. Geothermal power is more competitive in countries that have limited hydrocarbon resources, such as Iceland, and Italy. There are few geothermal resource areas in the US capable of generating electricity at a cost competitive with other energy sources
4. Geothermal energy cannot be a possible solution for energy in most countries
