Varsity Girls Winter Track wins first Conference Championship
LOCUST VALLEY – The Friends Academy Girls Winter Track team decisively won its first Conference Championship after beating 2nd place Cold Spring Harbor HS by 20 points and 3rd place Mineola HS by 53 points. The Lady Quakers dominated the 55-meter race, finishing 1st, 2nd and 3rd .
“We are so excited as a team about this achievement,” said coach Lauren Carballo. “But what is really great is that we have such an extremely young team,” she added. “This is a team with a lot of heart and spirit.”

Varsity Girls Tennis to play Cold Spring Harbor in Championship match
The FA Girls Varsity Tennis team (13-2) defeated Massapequa (12-3) in the Conference 2 Semi-finals 4-3 (Equivalent to Class B for most sports) on Monday, October 24. The Girls team heads to the overall Championship, which involves 16 schools in two co-conferences.

Construction to the Friends Academy Athletic Center began Monday, June 13, 2011 and is now complete. Thank you to everyone who supported this project. Here are a few of the highlights:
100% Locker room renovations include:
All new finishes, ceiling, lighting, plumbing, showers
New lockers
Added team room for team meetings, film review, etc.
Weight room renovated
New and improved storage space
Added air conditioning and new heating system
Main Gym renovations include:
New maple flooring striped for basketball and volleyball
New scoreboard, plus a second scoreboard and shot clock

Added air conditioning/fire sprinkler and heating systems
Bulldozers knock down the current Lower School playground, which was built over 15 years ago.
Work begins on new LS playground
New playground to offer multi-age, multi-use features
Demolition began on the current Lower School playground to clear the way for a new state-of-the-art design and equipment. The new playground, to open by the start of the 2012-13 school year, will offer students a more spacious environment and added equipment.
The new features geared to children 6 months-4 years, 2-5 years and 5-12 years offer a variety of swinging, rocking, climbing and balance activities. The playground facets also encourage collaborative team-building play and strengthen age-appropriate fine and gross motor skills.
