FA alumni, students compete at triathlon in honor of Brian Hom '11

Team Hom raises over $5,000 for Brian James Hom Scholarship.

On Sunday, July 21, Friends Academy alumni, current students and faculty competed in the 18th annual Montauk Lighthouse Sprint Triathlon to honor the memory of former student and athlete Brian Hom '11.

The triathlon included a 1/2-mile swim, 14-mile bike ride and 3.1-mile run. All FA competitors successfully finished the race. Kira Garry '11 placed 4th woman overall, and her sister, senior Katrina Garry, finished 6th woman overall. Tripp Gavin '08 finished first in his age group.

Team Hom raised over $5,000 for the Brian James Hom Scholarship, a Friends Academy fund created in Brian's name that annually honors students who embody Brian's qualities and live according to his motto, "I am the me I choose to be."

Kyle Grady '11 and other alumni established an online fundraising site through Fundly to make it easier to give. Proceeds will directly benefit the Brian James Hom Scholarship Fund and the Brain Injury Association.
