ALL UPPER SCHOOL faculty have a direct role in formal advising. The goal of formal advising is to regularly reflect upon and discuss the academic and social experiences of each student with him or her, in individual and group settings, and with the student's parents as needed. It provides students with an opportunity to share ideas and express interests and concerns in an environment where a supportive adult and other students listen to and share ideas with them.
A student's Advisor also serves as the faculty member who facilitates communication, when necessary, between the student and others in the school community who can provide academic and social guidance and support. By helping the student link with and communicate effectively with these other sources of support, including parents, teachers, coaches, peers, administrators, and the school's academic and health consultation teams, the Advisor is further promoting the overall growth of the student.
