THE GRADE THREE Team consists of two teachers who work together to plan and implement the third grade program. Children work in curriculum areas in both small and large groups. Our focus in Grade Three is on the "whole child" to establish positive academic and social learning experiences. Children are expected to become more independent in social interactions and academic responsibilities. In our weekly Community Meetings, the children learn to resolve conflicts through shared decision-making; thus arriving at resolution by consensus. They use these conflict-resolution methods on the playground, cafeteria, and even in the hallway. Grade Three is not restricted to the classroom!
Throughout the year, challenges geared towards building academic independence are: responsibility for nightly independent reading and homework assignments, research reports and projects. Each year culminates in the spirit of community where third and fourth grade teachers and students join together to produce a theater production!
