The Kindergarten Program at Friends Academy is comprised of two team teachers.
Our goal is to provide children with an education that develops their spirits, bodies and intellects by making use of their innate desire to investigate, explore and discover all there is to learn socially, emotionally and academically. The word Kindergarten is defined as a "Child's Garden" where children, like plants, bloom and grow in an environment that allows students to develop a positive attitude toward learning.
Our students are involved in myriad activities and thematic units of study. Our daily schedule consists of math, language arts, guided reading and learning centers. The Kinders attend Physical Education, Art, Music, Science and World Language classes, taught by teachers in these respective specialty areas. Our Thematic Units include: All About Me, Our Community at Friends, Our Five Senses, The Human Anatomy, One Hundred Days of School, The Study of Dinosaurs and The Feeling Family. Our days begin and end with Moments of Silence, which allow us to center ourselves and reflect on the Quaker Values and Tenets that are instilled in our students at a very early age. Student’s feelings, thoughts and inquiries are an integral part of all they experience each and every day here in Kindergarten. It is a Journey of Learning Worth Remembering.
