THE GRADE FIVE Team is composed of an English, mathematics, and social studies teacher. Along with their respective subjects, each teacher has a core group of students and serves as an advisor for the group as well the contact person between home and school. Core groups are organized heterogeneously and remain the same throughout the year. At the start of the school year, the core groups also serve as the learning groups for the academic rotations in English, mathematics, and social studies. During the year, however, we will reorganize these learning groups (also heterogeneously) so that the students will become more closely acquainted with all their classmates.
Throughout the year there are both on-going programs and mini-courses taught by the Grade Five staff and other trained professionals. Some programs include: Community Meeting, Community Service, Moral Dilemmas and P.R.I.D.E. Our goal is to prepare students for middle school by helping them be independent, responsible, and develop effective study skills.
