UPPER SCHOOL OPPORTUNITIES
Position: Associate Director of College Counseling
Start Date: August 26, 2010
Description:

This is a full time faculty position in the College Office.  The Associate Director of College Counseling is responsible for:

  • Meeting with juniors and their parents to create a list of prospective target colleges
  • Providing guidance to students regarding standardized testing, academic course selection, college admissions procedures, and financial aid
  • Writing recommendations for a portion of the senior class
  • Mentoring students through the writing process
  • Holding students accountable for related deadlines
  • Advocating for students at the colleges to which they applied
  • Supporting families efforts in final selection for college enrollment
  • Assisting with revisions of the annual College Manual, school profile, web page updates and other related documents
  • Advising at the 11th grade level and all other duties related to being a faculty member including the possibility of some teaching

    The Associate Director must also participate in large and small group presentations to students and parents, as well as work closely and collaboratively with Friends Academy administration, faculty and staff.  Additionally, the associate director must represent the school to college admissions representatives, visit college campuses and attend professional conferences.  
     

 


Qualifications:

A successful candidate will hold a Bachelors degree; an MA in education is preferred.  Understanding of the mission of a Quaker school is important for this position as well as experience in admissions at the undergraduate level.  Strong interpersonal skills are essential as is a proven excellence with interview skills, writing and communication skills.  Strong technical skills are also important so knowledge of Naviance, the UCAS application, Common Application, and college websites is beneficial. 



OTHER OPPORTUNITIES
Position: Head Crew Coach
Start Date: August 24, 2010
Description: This is a part-time position for an energetic, passionate, and experienced coach for our novice and varsity rowing program which typically consists of 20 to 30 rowers. The Head Coach will make a commitment to the program and help us further develop our successful program. The team participates in a fall and spring season regattas, some of which are out of state. Coaching duties include organizing and directing practices, training athletes, scheduling and attending regattas, and determining lineups. It also involves educating rowers on boat safety, proper rowing and racing technique, and individual and team responsibilities. The Head Coach along with the assistant coaches will supervise rowers and promote safety on and off the water, develop a strong sense of team and assist in maintaining equipment and preparing for regattas. The Head Coach will develop and maintain effective lines of communication and positive rapport with student-athletes and parents. He/she will mentor and supervise assistant coaches.
Qualifications: Minimum qualifications for the Head Coach position include a minimum of 3 years experience at the high school level or above. Desired qualities are reliability, excellent communication skills, and personal responsibility. US Rowing Level I Coaching Certification is required, with Level II preferred. Preferred candidates have earned a BA/BS and have competitive high school or collegiate rowing experience.
