Mr. Cicciari's Sixth Grade Social Studies Class

Ancient Civilizations

Department:
        History

        Social Studies Six

The purpose of Sixth Grade Social Studies is to gain an understanding of the beginning of Western Civilization and to develop the interest and skills necessary to study any society.  The year begins with an introduction to physical geography, mapping, and archeology.  From there, we will be studying several ancient civilizations ending the year with a unit on the Middle Ages.

My main goal in teaching this class is to have students understand the relationship between physical geography and its effect on different civilizations throughout history until present day.  We will be discussing a variety of social sciences by which any culture is studied.  In examining these sciences, students will be encouraged to express and explore their thoughts fully, share opinions with their peers, and strive to do their best.
