The Diversity Committee would like to raise awareness regarding an important effort in Friends Academy, the Diversity Grant Fund. The purpose of the fund is to assist students with grants to finance expenses that are necessary for their complete education. These expenses, not often covered within the parameters of financial aid, are often beyond the means of some Friends Academy families. It is not necessary to be on financial aid to receive a grant. Miscellaneous fees potentially covered by the Diversity Grant Fund include a Driver's Education program given at Friends Academy, art classes, yearbook purchases, textbooks, physical education clothes, sports equipment, school photos, and optional trips. The Diversity Committee desires that every student at Friends Academy have the same opportunities, thus applying for a grant is a simple process.
Students should pick up an application from Mrs. Clark, who is located in room 230 in Frost Hall, and fill it out. All applications are reviewed anonymously to maintain confidentiality within the process. It should also be noted that unless the fund runs out of money, there will never be a valid request in which a grant is not awarded. Once an application has passed, the Development Office will be notified as to the amount to be granted and the money will either be transferred to the program for which the grant is requested or directly to the student/parent if need be. Please take advantage of this opportunity to promote traditions of equality, social justice and community service.
