CARNIVAL
IN MARTINIQUE
by
Celia Filin

After
the Second World War, Carnival was degenerating into a series of unworthy
masquerades and compromising the beautiful reputation of Martinique. To
counter the loss of one of its major tourist attractions, a festival committee
was created and Carnival was saved.
Since
1949, the Carnival in Fort-de-France has revelled in glory.
